New Jersey Blogger Jane Novak’s Cause is to Protect Media Freedom in Yemen And Release Imprisoned Journalist

I just read a story published on June 9, 2008 over on Michelle Malkin’s website about a New Jersey blogger, Jane Novak, who closely followed a story involving a Yemen journalist, Abdul Karim al-Khaiwani. Al-Khaiwani. Apparently the journalist in question was   six years of hard labour because he told the truth about the present regimen over there. According   was facing the death sentence and it is very possible that Novak’s efforts might have saved his life. Blogger see-dubya writes, ” She’s (JANE) advocating human rights and exposing corruption and malfeasance out of her FOB in New Jersey.”

On July 20th, 2008 Miss Novak writes, “The war that al-Khaiwani wrote about, which got him imprisoned, is supposedly over. The Yemeni president called the rebel leader and its done. Hopefully, they will release al-Khaiwani now that everybody is friends again.”

I was actually unaware there was a four year war going on in Yemen, I am embarrassed to say.  Now the war is over and 1000,00 people who were displaced are being asked to return home, however, Doctors Without Borders and the ICRC  say that the region  is a humanitarian disaster. The war was between rebels (Houthi) and the current government. According to Yemen online, “President Ali Abdullah Saleh announced an end to hostilities on Thursday. However, even after the cease fire fighting still continued in Sadah, casting doubt on how long the peace would last. The rehabilitation of Harf Sufian has symbolic significance. This healing of the country’s war wounds is an important step forward in the peace process.”

The Journalist in question is said to be advocate for democracy. He was sentenced for insulting the president and demoralizing the military, meanwhile, during his arrest (2007) he was beaten and his six-year old daughter was slapped unconscious.
