Back in May, 2008 Stanley Kurtz wrote a good article/blog about Obama’s relationship with the Association of Community Organizations Reform Now (ACORN),  a RADICAL group that is now in the spotlight for voter registration fraud among other things. True Obama acting as a lawyer for ACORN won a 1995 case which forcing the state of Illinois to implement the federal “motor-voter” bill. Obama was a leadership-trainer for the group and also sat on the boards of foundationsaccording to Kurtz. The article directs us to read ACORN’s Nutty Regime for Cities (2003) by Sol Stern to understand how the organization works. It really is worth a read.  I will tell you this Stern begins is article/blog with the following, “If you thought the New Left was dead in America, think again.”  ARE YOU GETTING THIS!

ACRON works within the system to meet their goals. Interesting, no? Another Author cited by Kurtz is Toni Foulkes who wrote an article/blog “Case Study: Chicago — The Barack Obama Campaign.” Here in this article you gain insight into the relationship Obama had with ACORN. Kurtz writes, “Obama’s long service with Acorn led many members to serve as the volunteer shock troops of Obama’s early political campaigns — his initial 1996 State Senate campaign, and his failed bid for Congress in 2000 (Foulkes confuses the dates of these two campaigns.) With Obama having personally helped train a new cadre of Chicago Acorn leaders, by the time of Obama’s 2004 U.S. Senate campaign, Obama and Acorn were “\old friends, says Foulkes.”

Most of what I am reading is above my head but what I am getting is that ACORN is a radical, left organization that is ACTIVE and works within the system to get their goals met most of the time. Obama clearly has a relationship with this group (no surprise). After watching Hannity and Colmes tonight I learned that Obama gave ACORN $800,000 for a voting project. I see and hear in the news that ACORN is now being  investigate for Fraud……….their zest to enroll voters has gotten them into trouble it looks like. In addition, ACORN has a place in the current banking problems. To me it sounds like they put pressure on banks to give out loans to people who could not pay them back among other issues. I may be wrong but this is my take on the matter.

Kurtze writes, “……….Obama’s years in the Illinois State Senate indicates strong concern with Acorn’s signature issues, as well as meetings with Acorn and the introduction by Obama of Acorn-friendly legislation on the living wage and banking practices.”So, I sit here wondering how a man with deep roots on the left is running for President of the United States. Obama is clearing working within the system. I don’t think the left will have much impact on our nation right now but they are within and down the road will have an impact and this is why so many right wingers say Senator Obama dangerous.

I find all this news very depressing and one of my teeth just broke – a piece chipped off. BTW noquarterusa.net has a good blog on the ACORN topic (way better than my little blog – please go read it).
