Cuban Blogging Censorship

Posted by: dianej on: December 4, 2008

The Cubam blogging community is being hit hard by “authority”. According to reports on michellemalkin.com  today for wanting to plan a gathering of dissent Cuban bloggers on December 6th, 2008. Claudia Cadelo was summoned by the Cuban police because she was involved in planning the  event.Yesterday, Yoani Sanchez  was summoned by the Cuban Department of Interior and was given a harsh warninng about her involvement in a December 6th event. In November a warning went out to internet providers from the Gaceta Oficial of the Republic of Cuba, attempting  to censor the  Cuban blogging movement. Carry on bloggers but be careful.

In fact, it was not a “gathering of dissent Cuban bloggers.” Rather, it was a gathering on technical issues organized by Cuban bloggers, including some dissenting with the government.

It was decided to cancel the gathering because of the serious risk involved.

Thank you for clear facts. I am sure it would have had serious results. I wish all teh Cuban people and bloggers good wishes.
